InputMapper: Frequently Asked Questions

Short, verified answers to the questions InputMapper users ask most — version, safety, drivers, controllers, and the status of the project itself.

The Basics

What is the latest version of InputMapper?

Version 1.7.7452.13622, built around May 2020. It is the final build — development stopped, and no newer version exists. Any site offering a higher version number is not offering a genuine InputMapper release. Get it from our download page, where the checksums are published.

Is InputMapper free?

Yes. InputMapper by DSDCS (DSD Consulting Services LLC) is closed-source freeware that was supported by donations. There has never been a paid, Pro, or premium edition.

Is InputMapper open source?

No. It is closed-source freeware. (Do not confuse it with its driver, ViGEmBus, which is an independent open-source project by nefarius.)

What happened to InputMapper 2?

InputMapper 2 was announced and shown in beta form, but it was never formally released. The only finished InputMapper is the 1.7 line.

Compatibility

Does InputMapper support the DualSense (PS5) controller?

No — it cannot. The final build predates the DualSense launch (November 2020) by about six months, and DualSense support was never added. See our DualSense on PC guide for the tools that do support it.

Does InputMapper work on Windows 11?

It runs on Windows 11, but it was never officially supported there — the final build predates Windows 11. Our Windows 11 hub documents what works, what breaks, and the correct driver order.

Which controllers does InputMapper support?

The official input list is: DualShock 4, DualShock 4 V2, Xbox 360 controller, Xbox One controller, DualShock 3 (only via a Mayflash Magic-NS adapter), PS Move Navigation controller (via Magic-NS), and generic DirectInput and XInput devices. Output is a virtual Xbox 360 or virtual DualShock 4 controller, or keyboard and mouse.

Drivers and Safety

Do I need ViGEmBus?

For InputMapper 1.7, yes — its virtual Xbox 360 and virtual DS4 outputs are created through the ViGEmBus driver. Use the final release, 1.22.0, from the official GitHub repository: our install guide has the verified checksum. (The older 1.5/1.6 generations used ScpVBus instead.)

What is HidHide, and do I need it?

HidHide hides your physical controller from games so they only see the virtual one — the fix for double input. It is the modern successor to the legacy HidGuardian driver. If a game reads both your real pad and the virtual pad, you need it; our HidHide guide covers setup.

Is InputMapper safe to download?

Judge by checksum, not by promises. We downloaded the archived installer ourselves and verified its SHA-256 (ef06918e95921ffb5d2736c408fa329e142323f9c3337342b271654727e02608) and MD5 (1b166e39787476748358cca460fe4225) on 2026-10-23 — compare your file before installing. Note that an old build (1.6.10) has a known buffer-overflow CVE (CVE-2019-25464); use only the final 1.7 build.

What happened to the official website?

The original domain changed hands and now serves an unrelated gambling site — do not download anything from it. We documented the situation on our official website status page.
